Yoga & Ayurveda Workshops
According to Ayurveda, the universal life force manifests as three different energies, or doshas, known as Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Each human being is born with a unique combination of the doshas known as their Prakruti. This unique distribution of the doshas is responsible for the physical, mental and emotional differences among people. The three doshas (aka biological humors) are in constant state of fluctuation according to our environment, our diet, the seasons, the climate, our age, and many more factors. The current state of the three doshas is our Vikruti. Understanding our Prakruti and Vikruti helps us make the correct choices. Ayurveda recognizes that human life is part of nature, therefore we are also made up of the five elements, building blocks of nature commonly known as: earth, air, fire, water, and ether (the subtle energy that connects all things). The three doshas fluctuate constantly. As they move out of balance, they affect particular areas of our bodies in characteristic ways. Ayurveda views the balance of the three doshas as health and the imbalance as disease. In these workshops we will learn how we can recognize inbalance in the doshas and how to asana (posture) and pranayama (controlling the life force with breath) practise can help regulating them.
Walking on Rope...

This sequence has been designed to regulate Vata dosha. Vata is elementally defined as air and ether. If vata is aggravated in a person, he or she can be suffering from anxiety, insomnia, chronic tiredness, mental and emotional depression, physical tension and other symptoms of stress, a weakened immune system, constipation, skin dryness, inability to make decisions, impulsiveness, fast and disconnected speech, fantasy, illusions, and sensations of being light-hearted and removed from thoughts, feelings, or circumstances.
This workshop will be focusing on grounding and strengthening, finding balance and connection to Mother Earth. This fluid, slow sequence is challenging, but not draining. Vata people or people with vata imbalance easily exhaust themselves, so we will also learn how to pace ourselves during the yoga practise. I use the image of a tight rope in this sequence to aid us in building a strong foundation in the poses.
The workshop includes explanation of ayurveda and the doshas, pranayama exercises and at least 90min vinyasa practice. Suitable for all levels except complete beginners.

Taming the Lion...

This Pitta regulating sequence will bring you calm and serenity. Pitta is elementally defined as fire and water. When pitta is exacerbated you would experience excessive body heat, digestive problems, a tendency to be hostile or angry and controlling, impatience, a tendency to exert excessive effort to achieve goals, vision difficulties, and being prone to make errors in judgment because of mental confusion or because passion or emotion blurs powers of intellectual discernment. Physically pitta imbalance shows as diseases of the small intestines, like diarrhoea, along with diseases of the liver, spleen, thyroid, blood, skin (acne), and eyes.
So in this practise will encourage compassion, acceptance and relaxed effort and be cooling in nature. Pitta dominated people or people with and an imbalance in pitta tend to be too serious and goal orientated, so in this sequence we will set only one goal: working with relaxed effort will invite a practise that is engaging yet receptive.
We will be focusing on the transitions between the poses and the quality of the practise and not on achieving more.
The workshop includes explanation of ayurveda and the doshas, pranayama exercises and at least 90min vinyasa practice. Suitable for all levels except complete beginners.

Crazy Crow Sequence...

hen you feel lethargic, heavy and have a tendency to sleep too much are bored, lazy, and mentally dull you may be suffering from Kapha imbalance. It is almost unavoidable at the moment, since winter is the season of kapha so we all feel a little bit this way. Sinus problems, coughing, mucus discharges, breathing difficulties are symptoms of kapha imbalance. When kapha is in excess, we are prone to diseases of the stomach and lungs, most notably mucus conditions, along with diseases of water metabolism, such as swelling.
Therefore this workshop is a playful one, which will warm and cheer you up. We will do breathing exercises to build heat in the body and cleanse the sinuses, twists to stimulate the digestive system, arm balances to uplift our spirits and back bends to open the heart.
This is a vigorous, stimulating sequence, because generating heat in the practise breaks up stagnation and heaviness. Just what we all need right now!
The workshop includes explanation of ayurveda and the doshas, pranayama exercises and at least 90min vinyasa practice. Suitable for all levels, except complete beginners.
